Die Digitale Fabrik der FH Technikum Wien
The ability of a company to be economically successful in the long term depends significantly on its ability to develop innovative products and produce them cost-effectively. Technikum Digital Factory (TDF) is committed to providing an important contribution to the industry and economy by developing future-oriented and modern production processes and manufacturing technologies. Concepts for the industry are developed and investigated within the framework of a wide variety of research projects. Using state-of-the-art technologies and industrial robots, miniaturized robots are produced to illustrate concepts of smart manufacturing according to the motto ‘Robots made by Robots’.

Education
TDF is also an infrastructure for education purposes. Students pursuing a bachelor’s or master's degree at UAS Technikum Wien typically engage in developing concepts and further realizing them based on given problem statements in the context of the production of the TDF. Numerous training and continuing education opportunities have arisen around the digital factory. These range from integration into the topics of mechanical engineering, mechatronics/robotics, and automation technology, to events and open lab walks, to specific seminars for specialists and managers in the industry. The modern laboratory allows for optimal promotion of innovative teaching projects and offers a practical exercise opportunity for students during semester projects and final theses. The digital factory sets high standards in the mediation between theory and practice and the use of agile learning methods. The focus is on motivating students, supporting informal and self-organized learning processes, and promoting collaborative and networked working.

Research
The main focus is on researching requirements for changeable, efficient, and intelligent production design including robot-based automation, robot vision, robot safety, and mobile/autonomous robots in the sense of industry 4.0. Recently TDF has also been able to expand its research activities to include Human-Robot-Collaboration as a further research area paving the way to establish a fundament for research in terms of industry 5.0. Robot-based Manufacturing both machining and additive manufacturing also count in the research focus of the Technikum Digital Factory.

Industry cooperation
The infrastructure of the Technikum Digital Factory was built with extensive support from industrial partners in the field of automation and robotics. Our corporate partners have equipped the Technikum Digital Factory with state-of-the-art equipment and also accompany the developments in this research facility in targeted research projects. The Digital Factory is an implemented and demonstrative reference for Industry 4.0 in Austria with industry standards.
